George Patterson Conkin was probably an adopted son of his Uncle James Patterson Conkin (1814-1876) and James' wife, Hannah H. Dickerson Conkin (1825-1904) George was born in Arkansas (not Kentucky) and was listed out of order of the other children in the 1850 Monroe County, Kentucky census for James. This above information is courtesy of Find-A-Grave contributor and researcher Ann M. Small.

George Patterson Conkin first married to Martha W. Smith Conkin (1846-1878) (or 1845-1879?), with whom he had one child, namely:

1. Nannie Reed Conkin Clark (1863-1935)

Martha died in Kansas and George remarried to the widow Mrs. Sarah (went by Sally) A. Nading Shroyer (1848-1927) in c1880. Sally had first been married to Andrew Jackson (went by Jack) Shroyer (c1847-???) on 18 Jan 1874 at Labette County, Kansas. Sally and Jack had one child, namely: Henry Jackson Shroyer (1875-1941).

George and Sally were the parents of four known children, namely:

2. Lee P. Conkin (1881-1887)
3. Charles Moran Conkin (1883-1947)
4. Walter Conkin (1886-1960)
5. Katie Conkin (1889-???)

In the 1900 to 1920 Federal Censuses, George and Sally were living at Lincoln County, Oklahoma.

New information from Patty Dronfield:

Information has just been obtained from the National Archives regarding the parents of this George Patterson Conkin (and his sister Sarah Elmira Conkin). Their parents were Moses Conkin and Anna (surname unknown) who died in 1827 in Washington County, Arkansas. Moses' brother, James P Conkin was appointed guardian of these two children and they lived in Ky. George Patterson Conkin was in the household of James Patterson Conkin (who eventually moves to Missouri) and John C Conkin (also a brother of Moses) has Sarah Elmira in his household in Ky and they remain in Kentucky.
