Charles S. Douglas was born Oct. 24, 1919 , in Hammond, son of Charles and Hazel Storie Douglas. He attended Hammond Central School and served in the Army's Company M during World War II from 1940 to 1945 as a radio operator.

A 1946 marriage to Pauline Carmichael ended in divorce. He married Dorothy Heaton Fox in 1983 in Hammond.

He purchased Charlie's on Black Lake and operated the establishment with his wife until it was sold in 1985. He was also a licensed journeyman electrician at Diamond National for several years.

He enjoyed dancing, singing and music and had played in a family band as a young man. He liked traveling, boating on Black Lake, fishing and playing golf.
