Application for Maimed Soldier Pension: Personally appeared R H Nations of Whitfield County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says under oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said state, and has been continuously since 10 July 1842, that he served as a private, in Co I, 12th Regiment of Louisiana Volunteers, Scotts Brigade and while engaged in such military service at the battle of Decatur in Alabama, 20 Oct 1864, he was struck by a shell, shattering both legs below the knee, necessitating amputation of both legs between the hip and the knee. 4 Feb 1889, R H “X his mark” Nations, $150.00. After the War, he returned to Whitfield County to live.
