"Robert “Bobby” L. Byers, 68, 604 Water St, Hillsboro, died in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis, at 12:34 a.m. July 1, 1997. He had been hospitalized since Saturday. He was born in Lafayette, June 26, 1929, the son of Bradley O. and Coralie York Byers. He married Wreatha Mae Eubank August 6, 1949 in Hillsboro. She preceded in death June 4, 1978.

He had moved to the Attica area in 1939 and lived in Attica until moving to Hillsboro in 1979. He attended Covington High School. He had formerly worked hauling bricks for the local brick yards, including Poston, Veedersburg and Crawfordsville brick yards. He later worked as a supervisor at Radio Materials corp. in Attica for 10 years. He had served as a Pinkerton guard for C & D Batteries, Attica. He was a former partner from 1979-1987 of the Bob-A-Lou’s Restaurant near Veedersburg.

He was a member and an elder at the Attica Christian Church. He was a member of the Christian Seniors Fellowship and former member of Eagles Lodge #3596 of Attica. He was an avid collector of all different types of hats. He enjoyed his family and friends very much.

Surviving are: two daughters, Dawn Byers, Flagler Beach, Florida, Melinda (Jeff) Mayfield, Lincoln, Illinois; he haled raise two girls, Pam (Newnum) (Larry) Bowers, West Lebanon, Mickie (Newnum) Jones, Veedersburg; a special dear friend, Thelma Mathis, Hillsboro; a sister, Bobette McNamara, South Elgin, Illinois; and a grandson, Jon Bowers, West Lebanon. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore Byers, Sr. and William Byers; and a sister, Marie (Byers) Niccum.

Friends may call in Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, from 5-8 p.m. today (Thursday) and one hour prior to service at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Sterling Christian Church, Veedersburg, with the Rev. Don Green, Vice President of Lincoln Christian College. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, is in charge of Arrangements.
