Adrian L. "Bink" Beamer, age 85, a long-time Valley resident, died August 20, 2008, at Central Washington Hospital. Adrian was born in Grove, OK on February 5, 1923. His family moved to Wenatchee in 1936. Bink was a standout athlete at Cashmere High School, as well as at Eastern Washington University, where he lettered in three sports. He eventually received both a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education from Eastern. Bink married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Currie, in February 1943, and they began their married life in Brigham City, Utah, where Bink served in the United States Army until the end of World War II. Bink and Margaret's post-war life began in Silverdale, WA, where Bink began a long career as a coach and teacher at Central Kitsap High School. In 1957, Bink accepted a coaching position at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. He would eventually become the Wildcat's head coach for the football, track and golf teams. He took many of his teams to state and national titles. In 1963, Bink was named the Athletic Director of Central Washington University, a position he held until retirement in 1983. In 2007, he was inducted into the Central Washington University Athletic Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a coach and director of athletics during a career that spanned almost 30 years. There are many people in and out of sports today, who were either coached or mentored by Bink. Upon retirement, Bink and Margaret moved to Leavenworth, WA, to begin their new life as retirees, living on the golf course near there. They later moved to the Wenatchee area, where Margaret, Bink's wife of 64 years, preceded him in death in July, 2007. Bink was an avid jogger, golfer, skier and all-around sports enthusiast. He was a familiar face to many people around the Valley, always with a ready smile and always a story or two to tell. He leaves family members and many friends who will miss him. Bink is survived by his children, Adrianne Sherard of Brea, CA and Scott Beamer of Peachtree, GA. A Memorial Service and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to the Central Washington University Foundation, 400 E. University Way, Ellensburg, WA 98926-7505.
