Bernice is daughter to William Columbus Martin (from Putnam County, West Virginia) and Coral Lee (Coralea) Moore (from Lawrence County, Ohio). Bernice had many brothers and sisters, Hazel Helen, Ray W. (aka William Ray), Homer Glenn, Owen Clay, Wanda Gay and Louella Marie Martin.

Bernice Maxine Fields, 88, of Bridgeport, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the Heritage of Bridgeport. Her graveside services will be Wednesday, August 15 at the Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery at Good Shepard Episcopal Church at Bridgeport. Jolliffe Funeral Home at Bridgeport is in charge of the arrangements. Her obituary may be viewed at www. Jolliffefuneralhome. com where condolences may be left for her family.
Bernice was born November 24, 1918 at Hurricane, West Virginia, the daughter of William C. and Cora Lee (Moore) Martin. She graduated with the class of 1937 from the Huntington W.V. High School. She was united in marriage to Edward Paul Jones and they had one son, Edward. She was later united in marriage to Brooks Fields and they had one daughter, Bobbie. The family moved to Bridgeport from Ashland, Kentucky where they had owned and operated Fields Nursing Home. Bernice attended Practical Nursing School in Alliance, where she graduated at the top of her class. She later became the administrator of the Heritage Nursing Home in Bridgeport from 1964 to 1978. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son Edward (Betty) Jones of Fort Smith, AR, daughter Bobbie (Steve) Berry of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren, Jacke Sheehan of Van Buren, AR, Jodee Flatte of Fort Smith, AR, Shelly Bedard of Phoenix, AZ, Edward and Dean Jones of Joplin, MO, Alyssa, Sean and Adam Berry of Lakewood, CO; great-grandchildren Joshua Barling, Jonathan Sheehan, Dylan, Hailey and Logan Flatte and Noah Bedard and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, three brothers and lifelong friend, Harold Dean.
