FORMER CALUMET COUNTY SHERIFF KILLED IN CRASH
Chicago -- A former Wisconsin sheriff was killed and 10 persons were injured in the collision of a school bus and an automobile in suburban Proviso township Wednesday. The dead man was identified as Gerhard B. Jensen, 68, of Chilton, Wis., the driver of the car, Jensen is a former sheriff of Calumet County, Wis.
Jensen's wife Della, 63, and another passenger in the Jensen car, Mrs. Charlotte Jandrey of Chilton were taken to a suburban LaGrange hospital for treatment of injuries. Mrs. Jandrey's condition was reported to be serious; Mrs. Jensen's fair.
The driver of the bus, owned by the Safety Transportation Co. of suburban Maywood and seven of his passengers suffered minor injuries. All the bus passengers were pupils at Proviso Township High school. The bus driver, Arthur Harper, 39, told police he was driving westward through an intersection on a green light when Jensen's southbound car hit the rear of the bus.
Harper was held by sheriff's police on what they described as a "technical" charge of reckless homicide pending appearance at an inquest today
