John Otto Rogers was really born on Dec 17 1910 in Gober Fannin Co., Texas . When he had to get a birth certificate on retirement the Government got the wrong information. He was in an orphanage in 1920 census in Fannin Co., TX . The government used a John Rogers wife Mary and son John age 10 of Jack Co., Texas . John O Rogers was never in Jack Co., TX in 1920 . John did not want to go through the paper work to correct the info for his SS .
He ran away from the Hudsonville Orphanage at the age of 16 about 2 years before it closed.
He met Ruby Allen in 1929 and they were married in Miller Co., Arkansas , Texarkana . Aug 8 1930 he was 19 and she was 14. Neither had much of a family so they married and made a family for themselves. They moved to N W Oklahoma Custer Co. Where to old man who ran the orphanage had moved to , this was in 1932 just before there first child was born. They had 4 children Norman , Ethel, Leta, and Arlen. They lived in and around Thomas OK until late 1941 then John and his family and father in law Otis Allen made the trip to Troutdale Oregon . It took 5 days . Some of there friends from Thomas had gone there the year before. The Ruth Family. Eva and Ernest Ruth. Arrived in Troutdale Oct 1 1941 just before Pearl Harbor was bombed. He obtained a job right off at a dairy. When the war started he worked two war esential jobs. A wool plant and the Oregon Shipyards. Ended up in Gresham Oregon in 1948 and in 1951 moved to Lewiston Idaho . In Idaho he worked for the Orchards Irrigation until retirement and for several years after that part time overhauling water meters. He and Ruby lived out there lives in Lewiston ID both are burried side by side. Ruby's father Otis Allen next to her.
John was a hard worker and provided well for his family. Lived a simple life and wanted not much more , was super consertive as he had very little as a child . He was very powerful man for his size and took no guff for anyone . and you better not ever call him a S O B or it was lights out He never picked a fight but if a person kept pushing him they lived to regret it. At the age of 70 John's neighbor age 35 200plus lbs. called him a S O B and after being flattened 4 times he sold his home and moved.
