Leah Brewer Cole, 89, of Hickory Nut Gap Rd., Newland, died Thursday, October 12, 2006, in a Linville Hospital. She was a native of Avery County, and a daughter of the late David Alfonzo and Phebia Cuthbertson Brewer. A home maker, she enjoyed sewing, cooking and crocheting and she was a member of the Sugar Mountain Baptist Church. Mrs Cole was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Cole. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Banner and her husband, David, of Newland, Elaine Benfield and her husband, Chester, of Newland; sister, Helen Phillips; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren. Funeral services for Leah Cole will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, from the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Ford officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until the service hour Saturday afternoon at the funeral home. Interment and graveside services will follow on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Fork Mountain Cemetery. (Submitted by Steve Peters)
