Thomas Mathias Gorman was born to Thomas H. Gorman (1886-1951) and Edna Gorman (1892-1995) in Spooner, Minnesota on June 1, 1916. He passed away in Redding, Calif., on October 21, 2008, at 92 years of age.

He was in the WPA and Civilian Conservation Corp. in Michigan and worked from 1937 to 1941 on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam as a laborer. During World War II, he worked in the shipyards in Mare Island, Calif., and Seattle/Tacoma. He then had a 30- year career with the Bureau of Reclamation working again on the Grand Coulee Dam. He was very proud of his contribution to the construction of the dam and discussed this with family and friends on many occasions. He also worked on the construction of dams and canals in Idaho and California. After retirement, he settled in Grand Coulee where he lived for 20 years.

He is survived by his daughter Marcia (Gary) Hemsted of Redding, son Thomas (Kathy) Gorman of Fairfield, Calif., daughter Colleen White of Blanchard, Idaho, daughter Betty (Bill) Melau of Blanchard, Idaho, sister Betty Schildknect of Richland, 10 grandchildren and 12 great -grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Mary Jean, brothers John, Robert, James and William and sister Kathleen Klaas.

A memorial service will be held for both Thomas and Mary Jean at the Methodist Church, 405 Center Street, in Grand Coulee at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 1, 2008.

Graveside services will be at the Spring Canyon Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the church's fellowship hall for all of those who attend.
