Born in Lebanon County, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Minnie S. Flinchbaugh Fink. She was married to J. Lester Keener for 69 years.
As a member of Mount Calvary Church, Elizabethtown, she served as a Sunday School teacher, Pioneer Girls leader, avidly supported foreign missions and faithfully attended all services. She and her husband became legal guardians of Larry and Sue Buckman, (while their parents were missionaries in Brazil). Additionally she taught Good News Clubs, and was a member of Mount Joy Christian Women's Club.
A homemaker, she also worked in food service at Elizabethtown College and Masonic Village retiring in 1985.
Esther is preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Ann, and a half-brother, Henry G. Keener.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, J Harold Keener, Elizabethtown, David Keener, Fayetteville, Marilyn Sanders, Chambersburg, Melody Howard, Pasadena, MD, Miriam (Mim) Miller, Elizabethtown, half-sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Miller, 14 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 3, 2008 at Mount Calvary Church, 625 Holly Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until the time of service. There will be no viewing. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family and will take place in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church Mission Fund. Arrangements by Miller/Sekely Funeral Services, Elizabethtown.
