Robert Louis DeCOURCY, b. 7 Aug 1877, son of Isaac Henry and Emma (BARNEY) DeCOURCEY, enlisted in the Navy on, 27 Jun 1898, in Buffalo, NY and served during the Spanish-American War on board the "U.S.S. Buffalo."
Robert Louis DeCOURCY, ordinary seaman, was discharged from the U.S. Naval Service on, 24 May 1899. His discharge papers give his birth date as, "7 August 1877; age 21 years 9 mo.; Height 5 ft. 8 inches; weight 160 lbs; eyes, blue; hair, lt. brown; complexion, Ruddy." He was described as having a large scar on the right cheek, an anchor & star on right fore-arm, and a scar on left great toe. The discharge papers were filed and recorded, 2 April 1951, at Josephine County, Oregon. (Presumably as part of a pension application process.)

He married, 29 Nov 1905, at Philadelphia, Penna., to Mary DOBBS.

He was an iron worker and bridge builder.

In July 1922, Robert DeCOURCY named his next of kin as Mrs. M. J. BYRNES, mother, Delphos, Kansas. ---

In 1954, he was an employee of Union Creek Resort in Prospect, Oregon. He earned wages there of $283.33. His Social Security Number was 571-28-9449. His mail address was 11 Trip St., Medford, Oregon. - Information from a 1954 W-2 Tax withholding statement.

The will of Robert L. DeCOURCY dated 18 January 1957, reads in part: "I Robert L. DeCOURCY, being of sound mind and body and not anticipating death I hereby bequeath all real and personal property to Prudence CALDWELL, (My Neice) to have and hold as she shall see fit. This is my last will and testament, she is to be the Executrix, to act without bond. - Robert L. DeCOURCY." Witnesses were Dorothy S. CONARD of Selva Beach, Calif. and Esther R. ERB of Santa Cruz, Calif.

He resided for many years in Bend, Oregon, and he died, 9 June 1963, in the Veteran's Adm. Hospital at Vancouver, WA. VA-File# C2-418-028, Pension #I.O.1468015.

Eunice Thompson of the Deshutes Co. Historical Society writes, "Robert L. DeCourcy was born August 7, 1877. He homesteaded on the Upper Deschutes River on what is now the Montgomery ranch. He was the founder of the Bend Troy Laundry. Mr. DeCourcy was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Catholic Church. Mr. DeCourcy died June 9, 1963, at the age of eighty-six. He was survived by a half-sister, Mrs. Frank Hern; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Metke; nephew, M.P.Cashman; and neices, Prudence Caldwell and Jean Caldwell."
