Chief Petty Officer George Carpenter Stroble Sr., U.S.N. Retired died Saturday, April 24, 2004, in Trident Medical Center, North Charleston.

Funeral services will be held 4 p.m.Tuesday, April 27, in the Indian Field United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Vince Connor, Marshall Connor, Ken Messick, Tim Jackson, Gary Stroble, Carlos Stroble, Curtis Stroble and Rick Stroble.

Mr. Stroble was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Osborn, Charleston County, a son of the late John Curtis and Viola Canady Stroble. He was a Retired Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy having served in the Pacific during WW II. The owner of Stroble's Grocery and Appliance Repair in St. George. He was a mason, Woodmen of the World, and a member of Indian Field United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by brothers John Curtis Stroble and Ingram Stroble and sisters, Evelyn Stroble and Leola S. Jones.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly Byars Stroble; a son, George C. Stroble Jr. and his wife Ellen, of St. George; daughters and their husbands, Lynn and Andy Connor, Linda and Richard Rhode, Dorchester, Alice and Dale Messick, Summerville; grandchildren, Kevin M. Stroble, West Palm Beach, Fla., Natalie and Paul Garrett, Tim Jackson, St. George, Vince and Jamie Connor, Marshall and Penny Connor, Florence, Melissa Rhode, Dorchester, Shawn and Beth Messick, USAF Germany, Ken Messick, Summerville, Great-grandchildren, Bailey Garrett, Sydney Garrett, and Collier Messick. Brothers, Wilbur "Jack" Stroble and his wife Minnie, St. George, Henderson Stroble, Taylors; a sister, Ardell S. Cales, Adams Run.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home, St. George.
