There is much uncertainty about the correct spelling of McVan's name. On the birth record for his youngest daughter, Katie Caroline, his full name is given as McCullah VanDorn Todd. The 1918 City Directory for Tampa gives his name as McCullough V, while the 1930 City Directory gives it as McCullah Z. If we consider his father's propensity to name his sons after famous men, his full name would have been McCulloch Van Dorn Todd. If that is the case, then he was named for two significant Confederate Generals: Brigadier General Benjamin McCulloch, killed at the Battle of Pea Ridge, and Major General Earl Van Dorn who led the Confederate forces at the Battle of Pea Ridge.
