Trench Cave-In Kills Murrayite

A 24 year old father of four from Murray was crushed to death Thursday when wet clay caved into a ditch where he was working.

Allen C. Zitting, 328 East 6100 South, died almost instantly when a 12 foot strip of one wall of a sewer trench fell against him. The accident occurred at 1186 W. 9th South where he was working.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Zitting Monday at 206 E. South Temple with internment in the Elysian Burial Gardens.

He was born Oct 27, 1933 in Salt Lake to Charles F. and Edna Zitting. He married Laura Jean Barlow in Salt Lake in 1952.

Surviving besides his widow are his mother, three sons and a daughter, Allen Zitting Jr., Joseph and Benjamin Zitting, and Sarah Ann Zitting, all of Murray; four brothers, Marvin, Joseph, Carl and Zorin Zitting, all of Salt Lake; five sisters, Mrs. Rachel Fisher, Mrs. Eva Nilsen, Mary, Ruth and Rebecca Zitting, all of Salt Lake.
