Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 25, 1988 at United Methodist Church, McIntire, Iowa, for Roy F. Betts, 79, of Osage, and formerly of McIntire. Burial was in the Wayne Cemetery, McIntire. Mr. Betts died on Friday, Jan. 22, 1988 at an Osage nursing home, of natural causes.

Mr. Betts was born July 15, 1908 in Mitchell county, Iowa. He married Velma Lewis on Oct. 14, 1925 in Osage. The couple lived in McIntire. He was employed by Chicago Great-Western Railroad until 1960 when he retired.

He is a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. Due to health reasons, Mr. Betts lived with his daughter for the past 15 years, in Dubuque. He became a resident of Maple Manor Nursing Home in Osage in December.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma in 1968; two sons, Wallace and Eugene; a granddaughter and a grandson; four brothers; and six sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Bedola) Walter of Dubuque and Mrs. Homer (Nelda) Eastman of Janesville; six sons, Eldon of Hayword, California, Leon of Clarion, Neil of Osage, Gordon of Dubuque, and Keith and Kaye both of Mason City; and 30 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at Champion Funeral Home in Osage, and at the church one hour before services.
