On Oct. 27, 2008, Mom saw Jesus face to face. She met Him, our brother, Rex (Rusty) and our dad, Rex and all the others who have gone before her. After 21 years of breast cancer, her salvation was secured and she went on her way.

Mom was born on Sept. 7, 1937, in Columbus, Kan., to Thelma Estell Hutchinson and Fred Pickett. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1956, and was married to Rex Hill for 44 years. Dad preceded her in death in December 2001. She had a son, Rex who passed away in May 1986; two daughters, Kristi and husband, Mitch Wade and Jennifer and husband, Mike Burns, all of Joplin; her grandchildren, Dalton, Delaney and Ethan Burns; step grandchildren, Dustin and Derrick Wade; one sister, Pat and husband, Dr. Al Chapman, of Anderson; one brother, Fred and wife, Phyllis Pickett, of Joplin; one sister-in-law, Judy and husband, Jerry Brown, of Joplin; 20 nephews; five nieces; and one furry best friend, Lily.

What you may not know about her is that she was an outstanding artist and painter, devoted wife, mother, sister and daughter, a loyal best friend and Christian and a skilled grandmother. She had a wildly competitive spirit that may have been seen in a powder puff derby in the 60's or while playing cards or dominoes with us or her girlfriends.

Now the real apples of her eyes were her grandkids who she supported 100%. She was routinely seen at the local baseball, soccer and football fields watching them play or cheer. There was a special group of "Golden Girls" who traveled together all over the place to see tulip festivals in Michigan, whales in New England or seashells in Maui. Aunt Judy, Sue Brooks and Elizabeth Comer were her partners in adventure. Mom traveled to Amsterdam, Paris, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Hawaii and many other places.

Mom was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church for over 50 years serving in all capacities, was in the Newton County Extension Club and was a purple ribbon winner for her paintings at Newton County Fair. She always gave us advice whether we asked for it or not and we will miss her deeply.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, at Greenwood Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Warren officiating.
Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Greg Chapman, Jeff Chapman, Chuck Comer, Sam Pickett, James Pickett and Randy Pickett serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Thank you to everyone who has prayed and cared for our Mom. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Greenwood Baptist Church through Parker Mortuary. Online condolences may be made at parkermortuary.com
