A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Dona Justice Burleson and the wife of Gurney Buchanan, who passed away in 1985.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Buchanan, a daughter, Claudette Johnson, two grandsons: Richard Buchanan and Michael Johnson and a brother, Cecil Burleson.
Delora was a graduate of Cranberry High School and attended Johnson City Business College. She was an employee of Tarheel Mica Company for 42 years, a member of Henson Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and loved gardening, reading and traveling.
Surviving are two sons: Robert Buchanan and friend, Joy Haney of Cleveland, TN and James Buchanan and wife, Sharon of Newland; a son-in-law, Don Johnson of Newland; daughter-in-law, Joyce Buchanan of Newland; former daughter-in-law, Jeanette Mabry of Pacolet, SC; two sisters: Addie Barrier of Newland and Dorothy Arthur of Louisville, KY; sister-in-law, Edna of Fort Mill, SC; grandchildren: Donnie Buchanan, Buckshot Buchanan, Julie Miliron, Bill Johnson, Keith Buchanan, Kevin Buchanan, Anita Buchanan, Robin Buchanan and Jamie Taylor and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p. m. Sunday, October 8, 2006 at Henson Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Earl Carver, Jr. will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Yellow Mountain Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 p. m. prior to the service at the church and at other times will be at the home on Henson Creek.
