Veteran of World War I (Private, Battery A, 108th Field Artillery, 28th Division). Enlisted 3 July 1917; honorably discharged 24 May 1919 at Camp Dix, NJ. Participated in the battles of Fismes Vesles, August 1918; Aise Asne Offensive August/September 1918; Meuse Argonne Offensive September/October 1918; and Ypres Lys Offensive October/November 1918. Died at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Coatesville, PA, where he was a patient for more than 30 years. (Information provided by John's son, Edward H. Fielding)
