Friday afternoon, at the local M E Church, was held the funeral services of Mary Ann Lehman Cress, widow of Teller Cress, a pioneer farmer of Benton township, this county. The deceased died at the home of her son, Chester Cress, at Sturgis Mich, at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 22 days. She is survived by two sons, Chester, of Sturgis and George of Fort Wayne, and their families. Also the wife and children of her two sons Emmett and Ulysses, who preceded her in death, one brother, Peter Lehman of Fruitdale Fla, and many nieces and nephews who reside in this community. The remains were brought here Saturday morning and lay in state in the M E church until the funeral services when interment was made in the Lehman cemetery.

Mary Ann Lehman Cress, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jacob Lehman was born in Tuscawaras County Ohio Aug 4 1837. At the age of fourteen, she came with her parents to Paulding county, Ohio, where she spent the greater part of her life. In the year 1855, she was married to William Teller Cress. To this union was born six children - Emmet James, Celesta Lineas, Chester Bardley, Ulysses G, George M, Nettie Venora. The husband and the following children preceded her in death - Celesta Lineas, Nettie Venora, Ulysses G and Emmet James. Mrs Cress died at the home of her son Chester at Sturgis Mich, Feb 26, 1929, aged 91 years, 6 months and 22 days. She leaves to mourn her loss two sons, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Peter Lehman living at Fruitdale Alabama and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a member of the Methodist church and in her younger days was an active member of her church and a member of the Relief Corps of the GAR. Prayer services will be held from the home of her son, Chester at 309 North Fourth street, Sturgis Mich at 8:00 am, after which the body will be taken to Payne Ohio, where the funeral service will be held from the M E church at 1:30 pm Friday. Burial will be made in the Lehman cemetery.
