As a young man he moved to Chicago and married Louella Patschke in 1914. They had two sons and one daughter. The family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Henry was a chemist and worked for a gas company and a packing house.
After retiring, Henry and Louella moved to Lake County, Florida, where Henry died at age 71.
