"Mrs. Malissa Ozella Upshaw, age 96, of Rt. 4, Pocahontas, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1988 in Pocahontas Convalescent Center. She was born Sept 2, 1891 near Warm Springs, a daughter of the late Mitchell and Tempie Looney Miller. Her husband, Albert Upshaw preceded her in death. Mrs. Upshaw was a poet and she em¬ployed other talents. She is survived by two sons, Willard Upshaw of Pocahontas and James Upshaw of Dalton; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Washington of St. Louis; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in Dalton Church of Christ with Emmett Smith officiating. Burial followed in Upshaw Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
