Albert Slemons Hatfield, Jr., 71, died on January 3, 1990 in Phoenix, Arizona.


Born May 12, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Albert Slemons and Ida Marie Zbinden Hatfield. Served in Army Air Corps during World War II and received the rank of Tech Sergeant. Received Soldier's Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, two Air Medals, and other campaign medals. Participated in the battles of Solomon Islands, Wake Island, and Guadalcanal. He also served in the Korean Conflict, where he received the rank of Warrant Officer. Honorably discharged in 1955 for medical reasons.


Survived by mother, Ida Beck, Salt Lake City; son, Lewis Hemingway, Beaver, Washington; daughters, Deanna Wilson, Plano, Texas; LeeAnna Sproul, West Valley City; Aljean Joey Wilson, Holyoke, Colorado; 18 grandchildren; brother, Joseph Beck, Sandy; sisters, Aldean Morrison, Salt Lake City; Nathalie Halverson, Redwood City, California; Elaine Swenson, Kent, Washington.


Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 1990 at Goff Mortuary Chapel, 8090 South State Street.
Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
