GERALD KAVANAGH SR., 86, of 18 Raintree Road, Ranbleton Acres, near New Castle, died Sunday of complications from pneumonia in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Elsmere.
Mr. Kavanagh was an iron worker and welder at area companies, including Chrysler Corp. in Newark and George Paul Ornamental Iron Works, Wilmington. He retired around 1982.
born in Minneapolis, he moved to Wilmington in the early 1930s. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School. Mr. Karanagh was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Anne Carroll Kavanagh; two sons, Gerald Jr. of Newark and James of New Castle; four daughters, Margaret A Bevans of Clayton, Susan Moor of Stanton, and Marie Karanagh and Sharon Carlton, both of New Castle; a sister, Dorothy Romanski of Wilmington; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at John F. Yasik Funeral Home, 607 S. Harrison St., Wilmington, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, 33rd and Washington streets.
