"The death of Fredrick Bentley occurred at his home in Martville Thursday afternoon. He had been in feeble health for some time but was able to be about up till Thursday when he prostrated and passed away within a short time. He was 72-years-old and had been a well known resident of Martville for many years, having been active in the produce business and other enterprises. He was a veteran of the Civil War having enlisted at the age of 16 in the 185th Regiment New York Volunteers.
The near relatives left to mourn his loss are his daughter, Mrs. Fredrick Thompson; two sisters, Mrs. Hale Avery of Lysander and Mrs. Flora E. Gates of Finley, Nevada; a brother, Floyd F. Bentley of Syracuse; and four grandchildren. The funeral was held at the house Sunday afternoon. The Rev. Harold Stearns officiating and Hannibal Lodge F.&A.M. conducting committal services.
Mr. Bentley lived in Martville and at one time was a partner of Milton Forsyth. They owned a feed mill, bought grain and hay and shipped by railroad. Later Bentley sold out his share to Mr. Forsyth."
