James Robinson, youngest s. of Thomas Robinson and Sarah Denison, b. of record at Roxbury, Mass. and entered as Mar. 15, 1689/90 in the original Roxbury Vital records. James d. at Hardwick, Mass. per his gravestone in March 1762, the day not inscribed. He was survived by wife Patience, who d. at Hardwick in Jan. 1768, the day of her death also not inscribed on their original common gravestone.

That James' birth year is inscribed as 1690 means the immediate surviving family was well informed of the meaning of double year dating for the months Jan., Feb. and Mar. in the old English (Julian) calendar. The single year 1689 inscribed on the modern cenotaph gravestone for their great grandson Joseph Robinson, Jr. is an error.

On July 3, 1711 of record at Roxbury, Mass., James m. Patience Ruggles, dau. of Capt. Samuel Ruggles, Jr. and Martha Woodbridge, b. of record Nov. 9, 1689 at Roxbury, Mass. They had nine known children, the eldest two recorded at Boston, the next four at Rochester, and the last three at Hardwick, Mass.

• i. James Robinson, Jr., b. Mar. 1, 1711/12 at Boston, Mass., d. May 21, 1790 at Hardwick, Mass.; on Mar. 3, 1738 James of Hardwick published his intention to marry at Rochester, Mass., Mary Haskell, but whether this marriage took place cannot be confirmed. Five months later on July 3, 1739 of record at Hardwick, James m. Elizabeth Smith, dau. of Benjamin Smith and Elizabeth Curtis. Nine children of the family b. at Hardwick.

• ii. Thomas Robinson, b. Sept. 15, 1713; d. in infancy Dec. 16, 1713.

• iii. Samuel Robinson, b. Nov. 1, 1715 at Rochester, Mass., d. in Mar. 1784 at Hardwick, Mass.; m. Oct. 20, 1737 at Rochester, Elizabeth Doty, dau. of Joseph Doty, Jr. and Hannah Edwards, b. Apr. 6, 1717 at Rochester. She is believed to have d. circa 1805 at Stamford, VT at the home of her son Dr. Isaac Robinson. Five children of the family, who through their mother are descendants of 1620 Mayflower passenger Edward Doty.

• iv. Capt. Thomas Robinson, b. Apr. 29, 1718 at Rochester, d. Jan. 5, 1802 at Hardwick, Mass.; m. Nov. 23, 1744 at Hardwick, Mary Warner, who d. Aug. 7, 1812 at Hardwick. Three children recorded at Hardwick.

• vi. Dorothy Robinson, b. Mar. 10, 1722/3 at Rochester, d. there Sept. 25, 1810; m. 1) Oct. 27, 1743 at Rochester, David Peckham, and 2) Nov. 26, 1749 at Rochester, Maj.
