DORIS M. SMALT
DANSVILLE - Doris M. Smalt, 80, of Seward Street in Dansville passed away peacefully early Sunday morning (Oct. 7, 2007) at the Vincent House in Wayland.
She was born in Hornell, on Feb. 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Carl and Adelia Bentley Burger. On July 31, 1948, in the Dansville United Methodist Church, she was married to Larry Smalt, who survives. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Corinne Glover, Lyle and Wilbur Burger.
Doris was a member of the former Priscilla Chapter No. 525 of the Order of the Eastern Star in South Dansville where she had served as the secretary. She was a volunteer at Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville for over 4,000 hours. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, bird watching, clogging, sewing, fishing, and spending time camping with her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 59 years, Larry, are four daughters; Jean (Jim) Glover, Dianne (Mike) Daniel, Loraine (Dan) Wilson, all of Dansville, and Linda (Fred) Weiler of Standardsville, Va., two sons; Jon Eric (Inez) Smalt, of Saginaw, Texas, and Dan (Emily) Smalt of Odenton, Md.; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, Anita Burger, of South Dansville and Barbara Cooper, of Wayland, and a brother in-law H. Ross Glover, of Dansville.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hindle Funeral Home Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Dansville United Methodist Church, 5 Chestnut Ave., with the Rev. James W. Stevens officiating. Interment will be in Rogersville Forest Lawn Cemetery, South Dansville.
