He grew up on the farm and attended Jackson County schools.
He was married to Bessie Earl, April 8, 1909, at Colby, Kansas where they lived a short time before returning to Jackson County.
In 1937 they moved to California and lived near Mr. Vincent's brothers, Tom, John and George and his nephew, Gene Vincent, at Hughson. He was employed by the city there.
After about a year in California they returned to their farm home northwest of Mayetta which was near Mrs. Vincent's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shoff and aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Fred Huddle. Here these three couples lived and farmed together, sharing each other's joys, burdens and sorrows as well as many of those of their neighbors and friends. Mr. Vincent is the last one of this original little settlement of early day farm families.
After the death of his wife, Bess, in 1951 and the subsequent deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Shoff he sold his home and moved to the Shoff farm where he has lived in retirement for the past several years since failing health has prevented him from active farming.
Even though he was not able to farm extensively, he wanted to be able to live alone, be independent and care for himself. His wish of wanting to work until he was called was granted as he drove to Holton to do his shopping, returned home and plowed his garden the day he became ill only a few days ago.
He was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother and two brothers, Tom and George.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hazel Myers, Marietta, Ga.; two brothers, Forrest H. (Dutch) of Holton and John F. of San Diego, Calif. Several nieces and nephews and Robert Shoff, a brother-in-law of Holton.
A memorial service was held at the Mercer Funeral Home on September 19, 1967 at 2 p.m. Rev. Alex Eckert officiated. Organ music was furnished by Mrs. Dean Stous. Pall bearers were: Bob Shields, Ed Fitzgerald, Ed Schultz, Louis Walker, Myron Wells and Milton Daugherty.
Interment was in the Holton Cemetery.
