Willard Ray Gerking, 76, a Central Oregon pioneer and long time resident of the Tumalo community, died last night at the St. Charles Memorial Hospital in Bend. He had been in failing health for some time.
Mr. Gerking had been a rancher in the Tumalo area since 1907.
A native of Athena, in Eastern Oregon, Mr. Gerking was the son of Tumalo pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. J.N.B. Gerking. He was born in Athena on Aug. 18, 1889. His parents came to the Tumalo area in 1906.
Mr. Gerking was a member of a family of ten, of whom only one, a sister, now survives. She is Mr. T.G. Becker, Bend. A daughter of Mr. Gerking, Mrs. Helen Styles, is a resident of Redding, Calif. One grandson also survives. Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m., at the Niswonger & Reynolds Chapel in Bend. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. The Rev. D.L. Penhollow will be in charge.
