Popular News anchor for CNN affiliate television station KATV in Little Rock, Arkansas, she was attacked in her home, succumbing to her wounds five days later. Born in Greenville, SC, she was the only child of Brantley Phillips and Patti Pressly. Following their divorce, her mother remarried to Guy Cannady, who became her stepfather. When she was a young teenager, the family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where she graduated from high school, going on to Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, where she earned a BA Degree in Political Science in 2003. She was hired at KATV, Channel 7, in May 2004, initially producing the show "Good Morning Arkansas" and reporting for "Midday Arkansas" and "Saturday Daybreak." Described as having a vibrant personality with a radiant smile and a positive cheerful demeanor, she quickly built up a following among the local listeners to her program. After six months, she was promoted to fulltime reporter. A chance encounter with a casting director while working on a story led to her being given a cameo role playing an unnamed Ann Coulter type reporter in the Oliver Stone film "W" (2008). Anne's most favorite interview was a chance encounter with Vice President Dick Cheney, who she came across while he was visiting a nearby hunting supply store while on vacation in Arkansas. Close to her family, her mother would normally give her a wake up phone call every morning about 3:00 am, before she left for work. On the morning of October 20, 2008, when Anne failed to answer her normal wake up call, her mother went over to Anne's house about 4:30 am, where she discovered her daughter unconscious and lying on her bed, after a severe beating to her head and upper body. Anne was hospitalized at St. Vincent Infirmary and Medical Center, where she died suddenly five days after she was attacked. Little Rock police initially reported that she appeared to have been stabbed, but the report was later changed to just blunt force trauma to her head and upper body. The police stated that they did not believe Anne was intentionally targeted, but did not rule out either a robbery or other reason for the attack, since her attacker had taken her wallet and laptop computer. Several hours after Anne was taken to the hospital, Anne's Visa card was used at a nearby Little Rock gas station to purchase gasoline, leading police to believe she was the victim of a robbery. An organ donor, following her death, Anne helped six other people as recipients. She was cremated on Thursday, October 30, following a funeral service at the St. Andrews Anglican Church on 8300 Kanis Road, Little Rock. On November 26, 2008, police arrested Curtis Lavelle Vance, charging him with robbery, her rape and murder. On November 11, 2009, Vance was convicted of capital murder, residential burglary, rape and theft of property, and sentenced to life in prison, without parole.
