Lifelong Kit Carson County resident Jane Hatfield passed away on February 18, 2006 at the Aurora South Medical Center in Aurora. She was 76 years old.

Jane was born on June 30, 1929 in Hugo, Colorado to Carlos and Tulsie (Simmons) Allen. Jane attended school in the Hugo School District and graduated from the twelfth grade.

In June 1948, Jane married Lloyd (Art) Short. To this union two sons Gary Short and Rande Short were born. This marriage later ended with the death of Art in 1965. A few months later, in October of 1965, Jane married Harry Hatfield.

Jane loved spending time with her family and friends, especially the ladies that she played bridge with. Jane also enjoyed knitting, quilting and maintaining her beautiful yard. Those of you who really knew Jane, knew that her favorite color was red. Jane was also an avid Denver Bronco fan.

Jane is preceded in death by both of her husbands, her parents, and one step-son Michael D. Hatfield.

She is survived by her two sons; Gary Short of Vona, and Dr. Rande Short, his wife Debbie and their children Tyler, Jacolby and Mariesa of Erie, PA. She is also survived by one step-son Gordon Hatfield and his wife Patsy of Seibert, Colorado, five step grandchildren, fourteen step great grandchildren and one step great great grandchild; one sister Carol Garrison of Hugo, CO and one niece Karla Collins of Woodland Park, CO; as well as numerous aunts and cousins.

Memorial services for Jane were held on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 11AM at the Community of Christ Church in Seibert with Elder Lawrence Colby officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the Seibert Cemetery.
