Wedding of daughter Audrey
Wedding Bells Ring Out at Woodville - Holy Trinity Church, Woodville, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on December 8 when Audrey Jean, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. M. Taylor, of Woodville, was married to Edward Leslie, son of Mr and Mrs J. F. Pawson, of Feilding. The church had been beautifully decorated by friends of the bride, the ceremony being performed by Rev H. Wilson, of Pahiatua, while the wedding music was played by Miss D. Barkwith.
The bride entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr Russell Taylor and made a charming picture gowned in a robe of white dull finished satin cut on classical lines with sleeves puffed at the shoulders and coming to a point over the hands further enhanced by a beautifully embroidered veil caught to the head by a circlet of orange blossom. White satin shoes, gloves, a rope of pearls and a bouquet of Christmas lilies, white roses, orange blossom and maiden-hair and asparagus fern forming streamers completed a charming toilette.
In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Ruby Williams (chief) and Miss Curlein Eades (friends of the bride), who were similarly attired in frocks of apple green satin beaute cut on slim-fitting lines with capes to match. They wore green shoes and bandeaux of pink roses and asparagus fern. Little Ngaire and Beryl Pawson, twin nieces of the bridegroom, looked sweet in little princess frocks of shell pink sating beaute with bandeaux of pink roses carrying dainty baskets of pink roses and blue cornflowers and maidenhair fern.
The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Eric Taylor, brother of the bride, while Mr Arthur Kinane, friend of the groom, acted as groomsman.
On leaving the church the bride was presented with a lucky silver horseshoe. The reception was held in the Masonic Hotel, where the tables were decorated with sweet-peas and fern, pride of place being given to the beautiful three-tiered wedding cake. Mrs Taylor received her guests wearing a smart black ensemble with hat and accessories to match while Mrs Pawson was attired in a floral frock with black silk swagger coat and hat and accessories to tone. Their bouquets were of roses and carnations with maiden-hair fern. The usual toasts were honoured and several telegrams of congratulations were read. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a handsome handbag and to the bridesmaids a crystal toilet set each and the tiny flower girls' beads and a pretty purse bag. The happy couple left amid showers of confetti and good wishes by car for the north, the bride travelling in a black tailored costume, green blouse, black hat and green accessories.
