Keller Body Here; Funeral at New Berlin

Funeral services for Valentine J. Keller, killed in action November 3, 1918, in the Argonne sector, will be held Sunday at New Berlin, the town in which he was born and reared. The body arrived in Springfield this morning over the Wabash and Hoboken, New Jersey.

Sangamon Post, American Legion, will have charge of the funeral rites. Firing squad, color bearers, color guard and buglers from the local post will take part in the services. A private service will be held at 1:30 o'clock at the home of Joseph Dietrick, a relative, and church services will follow at the Church of St. Mary's at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

The soldier's mother, Mrs. Fred [sic: Ferd] Keller, who had six sons in service, died when the message came of her son's death overseas. [sic: she died 4 months earlier so perhaps she died when he was sent overseas].

Other members of the family who survive are the father, Ferd Keller; seven brothers, Ferd, Tom, Will, Leo, George, Richard and Bernard; four sisters, Mrs. Joseph Dietrick, Carolyn, Francis and Margaret Keller all of Electra, Texas.

First cousins who also served overseas will be pallbearers, Theo. Keller, George Kiefer of New Berlin, Charles Maier of Decatur, Otho Maier and Fred Maier of Springfield and Harry McKennedy.
