Gib Callaway, District Attorney for the 52nd Judicial District, composed of Comanche Hamilton, and Coryell Counties, at an early age moved with his parents to Comanche County in 1882, settling with them on a farm at Mercers Gap where he grew to manhood. He received his education in the rural schools of that community and completed his course at the Comanche High School under Professor W.F. Rogers, later attending the University of Texas where he graduated in 1907. After completing his University course, he returned to Comanche and formed a partnership with his brother, Oscar Callaway under the firm name of Calaway and Calaway, Lawyers. He was appointed Comanche City Attorney in 1909 succeeding U.G. Lovejoy. He was elected District Attorney in November 1914.
