"Postmaster Of Chipley Killed

Tom Cain Falls Into Train's Path

CHIPLEY, Fla., Nov. 10.--(AP)--Tom C. Cain, 49, postmaster of Chipley, was almost instantly killed here tonight when an eastbound L. & N. passenger train ran over him near the depot in the center of town.

Sheriff John P. Harrell, who pulled Cain's body from under the train after it stopped, said the postmaster died within a few minutes. His body was badly mangled. The tragedy occurred about 9:15 p.m.

Other witnesses said Cain seemingly stumbled onto the tracks. He was widely known in West Florida, in which he traveled 20 years as a salesman before becoming postmaster about two years ago. The widow, Mrs. Ada Cain, two sisters and a brother survive. Funeral services were tentatively scheduled for Monday."
