A history of him in the John Green Family Record book describes him as "a happy-go-lucky person, bull of song and dance and mischief. He was loved and remembered by everyone. His personality was outgoing and unique. He was compassionate and free hearted. He was also the gypsy of the family and loved to travel. His songs and story telling endeared him to adults as well as children."
Regarding his death and burial, the John Green Family Record Book says: "He was living at Malta, Idaho, when he contracted pneumonia and died 12 July 1938. He was buried in Elwood, Utah, beside his first son John Kirkman Green." However, the Elwood cemetery has no record of either John Wilford or his son John Kirkman Green being buried there. In fact, son John Kirkman Green's death certificate says he was buried at Tremonton.
