Leslie Gene Daniel, 68, of the 1100 block of Virginia Ave., died Sept. 28, 1999. He was a loving husband and father and a great friend to all.

Mr. Daniel was born in Jefferson County, Ala. Owner and operator of Francis A. Gay Funeral Home for the last five years, he had worked in the funeral home business for 51 years. He was a member and former deacon of Rosemont Christian Church in Chesapeake, a member of South Norfolk Lodge No. 339, A.F.&A.M.; a member of Berkley Masonic Lodge No. 167, A.F.&A.M.; a member and past patron of Friendship Chapter No. 57, O.E.S.; and a member of the South Norfolk Ruritan Club. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from Deep Creek High School in 1948 and also from mortuary school at Cincinnati College of Embalming, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Gasser Daniel, and a son, Stephen L. Daniel, both of the residence; a sister, Doris Daniel Anholt of Alexandria, Va.; two nephews, William V. Lamberson of Marietta, Ga., and David G. Lamberson of Williamsburg; and a dear friend, Mildred S. Gay of the funeral home. He was predeceased by his mother, Nellie Blanch Hanbury Daniel and his father, William Bart ``Jeff'' Daniel.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Jim Dunn. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. Masonic rites will be accorded at the graveside.
