TAHLEQUAH -- Zelma Marie Cooper passed from this life Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, in Tahlequah, at the age of 100. She was born Jan. 12, 1905, in Old Town McAlester, to Tom and Dora (Grantham) Minyard.

Zelma was an Indianola High School graduate. She attended secretarial college in Oklahoma City. She retired as a dining room matron at Sequoyah Indian School after over 20 years of service. She married Fred Hunter Cooper, who preceded her in death on July 14, 1977. She later married Homer Anderson, who preceded her in death April 27, 1998.

Zelma was a former member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, sewing, cooking and laughing with family and friends. She was best known for her wittiness.

Zelma was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Fred Cooper and Homer Anderson; two sons, Billy Joe Cooper and Freddy Gary Cooper; her parents, Tom and Dora Minyard; a grandson, Joe Dale Cooper; two sisters, Ethel Turner and Aurie Jones; and five brothers, Onie, Osie, Haskell, Art and Ancel Minyard.

She is survived by her daughter, Nakita (Cooper) Huff and husband, Gene, of Tahlequah; nine grandchildren, Darlene Schiefelbliz, Brenda Buchanan, Linda Forrest, Cathy Cooper, Debbie Pierce, Gary Cooper, Paul Cooper, Terry Huff and Tim Huff.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at Reed Culver Chapel, with Rev. Ron Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery, under the care of Reed-Culver Fuernal Home of Tahlequah.
