Jack Roland Backlund Jr., of Arthur Township, in Mora, died on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 50 years old.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1957, at Miller Hospital, in St. Paul, to Jack Sr. and Jane (Berulson) Backlund.
On Nov. 25, 1983, he was united in marriage to Carol Reynolds. They had three children: Jacob, Julia and Sarah.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Sr.; his grandparents, Melvin and Alice Berulson; and uncle, Roger Backlund.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of 25 years; son, Jacob of Mora; daughters: Julia of Mora, and Sarah (Ralph) Ngonyo of Plymouth; mother, Jane Backlund of Woodbury; brothers: Eugene (Tammie) of Johnson City, TN., Curtis (Rachel) of Ft. Atkinson, WI., and Jerome (Jeanie) of Woodbury; mother and father-in-law, Mable and Richard Reynolds of Mora.
Funeral services were on Monday, Oct. 20, at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. Doug Larson officiated. Pallbearers were Sam Strom, Matthew Cox, Greg Peterson, Carl Buchanan, Dennis Burmeister, and David Backlund.
Honorary pallbearers were Edward Peterson, Arlen Krinkle and Gary Berulson.
Burial was at Knife Lake Cemetery, in rural Mora.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home, of Mora.
