James married Martha Patsy Fisher (b abt 1798) on 02 Nov 1826 in Kentucky, and they had three sons: William F. (b 14 Jan 1837, d 1812, James M. (b 10 Jan 1834, d 9 Mar 1912, and John Cain (b 15 Jun 1840, d 4 Mar 1910).
Martha and James moved to Estill Co., KY about 1840. They were living in Estill County in 1850 and in Jackson County per the 1870 Census. In the Jackson County, Kentucky Census of 1880, "John" James Cain listed his parents being born in Virginia. James Cain has been listed as James and John Cain.
James and Martha died aft 1880 in Kentucky.
