Funeral services will be held for Ruby Stone, 86, of Coquille, at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at First Christian Church, 511 Sixth St., Myrtle Point with Pastor Doug Shupe officiating. Internment will be at Norway Cemetery.

Ruby Agnes Stone was born Aug. 28, 1922, at Bancroft, to Hugh Thomas and Marie Catherine (Jurgensen) Johnson. She died Oct. 18, 2008 in Coquille.

Ruby attended Bridge and Bancroft grade schools and graduated from Myrtle Point High School in 1941. She was married to James B. Casey that same year. They had one son and were divorced in 1946.

Ruby was employed as a secretary at the Ford dealership in Coquille, where she met Boyd Stone. They were married at the First Christian Church in Coquille on March 26, 1949. They raised their family on Johnson Hill south of Coquille, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Ruby was known for her large yard full of beautiful flowers, and she always had starters and seeds to share. She enjoyed different forms of needlework, and it was her pleasure to knit caps and booties to be given to new babies born at Coquille Valley Hospital.

She was a member of the Myrtle Point First Christian Church. She particularly appreciated the mission work and her friends at the Christian Women's Fellowship in Coquille. She read her Bible every day and loved the old traditional hymns she'd known all her life. She was an active member of the Grange for 46 years, first in Coquille and then Bridge. After her health forced her to stop attending, she was pleased and surprised to receive an award for her years of service.

Ruby is survived by her husband, Boyd of Coquille; sister, Florence Wilson of Sutherlin; son, Terrence Casey of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Sharon and Howard Walton of Washougal, Wash.; daughter, Marilyn Hill of Eugene; son, John Stone of Coquille; and grandchildren, Terry and Lisa Walton of Florence, Chad Walton of Springfield, Allyssa and Jeremy Holcomb of Newport Beach, Calif., Dawn Casey of Junction City and Kimberly, Eric, Aeron and Marian Hill of Eugene; and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She shared a special closeness with her niece, Phyllis Hultin Britton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Amanda Waterman; her brother, Charles Johnson; and her son-in-law, Edward Hill.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Myrtle Point First Christian Church, P.O. Box 545, Myrtle Point, OR 97458 or to Christian Women's Fellowship, Coquille Christian Community Church, 625 E. 10th St., Coquille, OR 97423.

Arrangements are under the direction of Amling/Schroeder Funeral Service -- Coquille Chapel, 396-3846.
