He was born Aug. 27, 1916, near Soldier, the son of Claude and Nettie Nott Hickman.
Mr. Hickman farmed in his early years and later worked for Anderson Construction in Holton. He then went to work for Goodyear, retiring in 1977.
He married Jennie Jane Mack in 1947 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They were later divorced. He married Dorothy Mayhew in 1963 in Topeka. She died in 1977. He married Ailsa Christenson in 1978 in Topeka. She died in 1996. A son, Doyle Francis Hickman, also preceded in him in death on May 1, 1978.
Survivors include a son, Troy W. Hickman, and his wife, Linda, Topeka; five stepsons, Jack Mayhew, Jim Mirowsk and Randy Mirowski, all of Colorado, Dick Mayhew, of Florida, and Gary Mayhew, of Fontana, Kan.; six stepdaughters, Joyce Corber, of Olathe, Judy McKinley, of Gardner, Sandy Schweitzer and Marilyn Reusch, both of Topeka, Joanie Tilton, of Hoyt, and Sherry Frost, of South Carolina; 29 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Olive Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Heart of America Hospice, in care of Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, Kan. 66436.
