My mother, Elese Pauline Jones, was born in Oregon City and was raised at Thompson's Flat, outside of Cherokee, graduating from high school in 1910. She was first married to George Graves who died on January 25, 1919, as a result of the flu epidemic. She was the mother of two sons, John, born 1914, and Ira, born 1916, and I was born January 8, 1919. My father died two weeks later and my mother had him buried in Chico Cemetery, even though most of her family is buried at Cherokee. She married Roy Brooks and they had four more children. My granddad, Richard Jones, farmed out toward Butte City ..."
