DR. LOUIS R. BARROW, DDS
1917-2008

Dr. Louis R. Barrow, DDS. 90, of Pensacola, passed away Monday, October 20, 2008.

Dr. Barrow was born in Shreveport, LA on November 15, 1917 to Raymond A. and Sarah Maude Barrow. He was the grandson of Captain W. G. Barrow, captain of the steamship Tarpon.

He had resided in Pensacola since 1925, and graduated from Pensacola High School. Dr. Barrow graduated from Atlanta Southern Dental College in 1943. After his graduation he was called to serve his country in WWII, as a Captain in the US Army Dental Corp. While on active duty he served as a captain in the 124th gun battalion Army Dental Corps in the European Theater of operations and received the ETO Ribbon with four battle stars, and was Chief Dental Surgeon for the 71st Infantry Regiment.

He practiced dentistry in Pensacola from 1946 to 2006, and was past president of the Northwest District Dental Society of Florida and the Pensacola Dental Society, had served as chief of Dental Staff at Baptist, Sacred Heart and Escambia General Hospitals and as dental consultant to the Cerebral Palsy Treatment Center.

With two other members of the Optimist Club, he organized Little League in Pensacola, was founder and past president of Hidalgos, as well as a former member of Order of Tristan, Saints and Sinners, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and other organizations. He was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.

His wife of 63 years Mary Ellen Barrow preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter Cherie Barrow McGee (Terry) of Mobile, AL; son Kenneth Craig Barrow of Pensacola; three grandchildren Dawn Shadow (Michael) of Brandon, MS, Rhett McGee of Mobile, AL and Analise Himsl of Cape Coral, FL; two great grandchildren William Thomas and Macy Ellen Shadow of Brandon, MS.

Visitation will be held 5:00pm-7:00pm, Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:30pm Friday, October 24, 2008 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Ken Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery.
