Betty Jean (Harnack) Tremmel was born on Wednesday; January 9, 1929 in Sheldon; O'Brien County, Iowa. She was the daughter of: Rollie and Bertha (Whitehead) Harnack. She was raised in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School. On Tuesday; September 6, 1949 she was united in marriage to Victor Tremmel at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa. She and her husband made their home in Ashton; Osceola County, Iowa. To this union, six children were born. Betty owned and operated Vic's Tavern in Ashton for 18 years. She later worked part time at the Leisure Pine Manor. Before retiring in 1989 she was the head checker at the Pamida store in Sheldon. She enjoyed crochet work, knitting and caring for her many house plants. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for 26 years. But mostly Betty enjoyed her family and friends. Betty Jean (Harnack) Tremmel, age 79, passed away on Monday; October 20, 2008 at her residence in Ashton, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her five children: Tony (Donna) Tremmel of Sioux City; Woodbury County, Iowa. James Tremmel of Ashton, Iowa. Judy (Marvin) Menage of Sheldon, Iowa. Mark Tremmel and his special friend Laverna Schmidt both of Okoboji; Dickinson County, Iowa and Barbara Tremmel of Ashton, Iowa. Her six grandchildren and her four great-grandchildren. Sister Hazel Clark of Tucson; Pima County, Arizona. Her sister-in-law: Clara Jo Harnack of Spirit Lake; Dickinson County, Iowa and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years: Victor Tremmel; infant son; brothers: Fred and Ron Harnack; brother-in-law: George Clark and sister-in-law: Catherine Harnack. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday; October 22, 2008 at the funeral home. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday; October 23, 2008 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton, Iowa with Friar John Vakulskas and Friar Timothy Hogan as celebrants. Interment will be at the Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Ashton, Iowa. For condolences, please visit the funeral home's website.
