Dolores "Dee" Maxine Coleman Willis, 77, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the Inola Health Care Center in Inola, Okla.
She was born April 15, 1931, in St. Louis, daughter of Charles and Leta Tate Coleman. She and Leo Raimond Willis were married Oct. 2, 1948.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Devils Elbow. She was baptized at an early age in St. Louis. She served as a Sunday School teacher for a number of years and was active in the Bible study program at Inola Health Care Center.
She was a secretary at Fort Leonard Wood from 1952 until she retired in 1988 to care for her ailing husband. She was active in the National Federation of Federal Employees, Local 738, serving as president of both the local and state chapters. She organized a voter registration for residents of the care center to help them exercise their right to vote.
An avid writer, she wrote the short book, "The Willis Family Tree (And all the Knotholes)." She loved gardening, the outdoors, bowling and animals.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, James.
Survivors include a son, Kent of Claremore, Okla.; a daughter, Vicki of Newburg; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. today (Thursday) at Evans Funeral Home. Services are 3 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Leroy Bates officiating. Burial will be in Ozark Cemetery.
