Violet J. Welch, 85, from Grant Town, passed away peacefully at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Fairfax Station, Va., on Friday (Oct. 10, 2008). She was born on Aug. 20, 1923, in Stark, W.Va., to the late William and Florence Tincher. She was devoutly married to the late Lawrence R. Welch in 1942, and was the proud mother of daughter Mary K. Egress and her son, the late Robert L. Welch. She enjoyed many years working for the Standard Supply Company in Grant Town. She was a member of Ballah Chapel Methodist Church in Grant Town and enjoyed her time involved in the church. Daily highlights were when friends would come by and she could enjoy a visit out on her front porch. Spending time in the outdoors whether it would be fishing, feeding her cardinals in the winter or collecting shells while walking along the beach were always a favorite pastime. Violet is survived by her loving and dedicated daughter, Mary K. Egress and compassionate son-in-law Richard "Dick" Egress. She was very much loved, looked after and cared for during her final days by both of them. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mary Beth Tighe and husband Andy, Nicole E. Connolly and husband Bill, Todd Egress and wife Suzanne, Daniel Welch and wife Tonya and Amber Welch. She was also blessed with beautiful great-grandchildren, Joshua Tighe, Brandon Egress, Trent and Chad Connolly and Emma Welch. Violet is also survived by a very special sister-in-law, Gloria Tincher, wife of the late Don Tincher whom she shared a special friendship. All of her family and dear friends will be forever thankful to have shared many years and memories with her. In addition to her husband, Lawrence R. Welch, and son, Robert L. Welch, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Don Tincher, Carl Tincher and Leonard Lowery. The viewing will be on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel, Fairview. The funeral will be on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev Wesley Dobbs officiating. Burial immediately following at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Fairmont. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Grant Town Volunteer Fire Department or Ballah Chapel Church in Grant Town.
