"Earl Holmes

Earl Holmes, a Napa County resident since 1928, died Friday [December 31] in St. Helena. He was 67.

A native of Arkansas, Holmes moved to the Napa area when he went to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard where he retired as a pipefitter in 1955.

He left the county for several years following his retirement and then returned as caretaker of the "Circle 5" ranch in Chiles Valley.

Holmes is survived by his wife Mildred, and by five sons and a daughter - Michael Holmes, of St. Helena, Thomas Holmes, of Barber's Pt., Hawaii, Peter Holmes, David Holmes, and Robert Holmes, all of St. Helena, and Mrs. Helen Shelton, of Napa.

A brother, A.T. Humphries, of Michigan, and a sister, Mrs. Hope Yager, of Ontario, Calif., also survive as do four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday [January 4], with the Rev. Franklin Scott officiating at Chapel of Richard Pierce Funeral Service. Interment Wooden-Farley Cemetery, Wooden Valley, Calif."
