James Eugene Schommer, "Uncle Bob", age 76, of Berlin, passed away Sunday October 12, 2008, after a long respiratory illness; surrounded by the love and support of his family.
He was born on June 21, 1932 in South Milwaukee, the son of Nicholas and Katherine Alvina Rock Schommer.
Jim married the love of his life, Dolores Krause on October 4, 1952 at Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church of Berlin. They enjoyed 56 years together further being blessed with the joy of their four children, four grandchildren and one great grandson.
Jim worked as a machinist at the Speed Queen Company for over 35 years, retiring in 1995. He served his community as a supervisor for the Green Lake County Board, for 27 years. Jim was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, and serving as an usher and server. He was an avid hunter who especially enjoyed sharing his love and skills of the sport with his children.
He is survived by his dear wife Dolores, two sons; Jeffrey (Mary) Schommer, and children, Brent and Shawna Schommer, and great grandson, Jayden Sonnenberg, of Green Bay, Michael (Roberta) Schommer, of Lake Forest, IL, two daughters, Ann Schommer, of Berlin, Susan (Bruce) Rogers, of Jackson, and children, Gregory Rogers, of Phoenix, AZ, Melissa Rogers, of Jackson, two sisters, Lucille Nischke, of Kewauskum, Frances Beck, of Iron Ridge, other relatives and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of Berlin. A parish rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. Jim will also be in state at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9 until we leave for Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday morning, October 16, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church of Berlin. Rev. Jerome Maksvytis will be officiating.
Burial will take place at the Saint Stanislaus Cemetery of Berlin.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be directed to All Saints Parish.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who took great care of our husband and father during this critical time in the Intensive Care Unit at Mercy Medical Center.
