Raymond only served 90 days in jail for the killing of Mike Kieff. See below.
A sentence of 90 days was meted Raymond Davis, 30 year old Limestone county farmer, in the November, 1949, death of Mike Kieff, whose body was found in Hulsey branch near the Tennessee line.
The Verdict was returned Thursday by a Giles county, Tenn. jury which found Davis guilty of involuntary manslaughter rather than first degree murder as charged.
The prosecutions case was based on a confession by Davis, the confession being taken shortly after Davis' arrest. He stated that he, Kieff and several others had been throwing rocks at a beer can across the creek, when the third missile he threw struck Kieff in the head.
Davis insisted at the time that he didn't mean to kill Kieff, that his hand must have slipped. The group tried to remove the body from the creek, but was unable to do so.
It was found there the following morning. No witnesses were presented for the defense and the defendent did not take the stand.
